Jeffrey DeSarbo, D.O.
Dr. DeSarbo is a Board Certified Psychiatrist specializing in eating disorders as well as general psychiatry. As a physician, Dr. DeSarbo completed his medical internship and training in psychiatry through the New York University(NYU) residency program at North Shore University Hospital, Manhasset, NY and he attended medical school at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, NY. Dr. DeSarbo's special interest in the neurosciences has led to a unique approach to treating eating disorders and other psychiatric conditions.
Dr. DeSarbo is the Medical Director of ED-180 Treatment Programs for Eating Disorders which prorvides intensive, comprehensive, outpatient, treatment for patients with eating disorders who require a higher level of care. He is also the Executive Producer and News Anchor for the EATING DISORDER NEWS NETWORK (EDNN), a leading international website for eating disorder news and advice. Dr. DeSarbo served as a Board Member of the National Eating Disorder Association (NEDA) of Long Island and he frequently lectures to the public and teaches courses on eating disorders and psychiatry to physicians and other health care providers. Dr. DeSarbo is currently the Director for the N.Y. Eating Disorder Medical Group. In addition to Dr. DeSarbo's extensive training in psychopharmacology, he has been trained in and practices psychodynamic, existential, and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). By combining the art of therapy with the biological understanding of the human body, as well as using Evidence Based Medicine, Dr. DeSarbo's approach is to help a patient understand themself as whole: mind, body and spirit. Dr. DeSarbo is also currently authoring 2 new books: 1) Demystifying the Biology of Eating Disorders and 2) Why Eating Disorder Treatment Fails: How to Avoid Lost Time, Money and Health.

DR. DESARBO'S UPCOMING SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS: Judi LiVigni-Zwang, MS, RD, CDN, now has offices with the NY Eating Disorder Medical Group in Garden City. Judi is a registered dietician specializing in eating disorders. Judi provides personalized nutritional-therapy programs for ED patients which at times may include therapeutic meals with patients and the formation of eating groups.

Dr Igal Rahmani, M.D., Addiction Psychiatry, is now in the ED-180 offices with Dr. DeSarbo and is a general psychiatrist who specializes in the treatment of addictive disorders including drugs, alcohol, and behavioral addictions.
Karrin Genovese, M.D., Family Practice Medicine, is now on board as the Nassau County medical consultant for the NY Eating Disorder Medical Group. Dr. Genovese provides medical management for ED patients and is located in Garden City at Cardiovascular Medical Associates along with other specialist..
Michael Rosen, M.D., Internal Medicine, remains on board as a medical consultant with the NY Eating Disorder Medical Group and as a medical story consultant for the Eating Disorder News Network.
Joseph Puccio, M.D., Pediatrics, is a member of the NY Eating Disorder Medical Group providing consultation for children and adolescents with eating disorders. Dr. Puccio is on staff at Stony Brook Hospital.
Meg Maginn, LCSW, Owner and Director of Counseling at Eating Disorder Associates, Hilary Brodsky, LCSW, a former Senior Therapist at the Renfrew Center in NYC, and Dr. Ellisa Siony, PhD. have also taken office space at the NY Eating Disorder Medical Group. All therapists are renowned professionals with extensive experience in the field. They offer individual and family therapy as well as eating disorder groups for patients and family.

Dr. DeSarbo has a very relational style and draws extensively from his significant life experiences as well as his medical understanding of the brain, mind and body. By combining psychodynamic, existential and cognitive-behavioral therapy in his treatment, patients develop an understanding of their thinking and behaviors, what motivates or hinders them in the world and what actions need to be taken to enhance the quality of their lives.
Dr. DeSarbo also works in collaboration with some of the very best physicians, specialists, treatment centers, therapists, counselors, and nutritionist to provide a thorough treatment plan in the patient's best interest.
Dr. DeSarbo also will assess a patient's mental health as it may be relating to associated medical conditions. Routine laboratory work and monitoring, and prescription of medications often play an important role in the proper diagnosis and treatment of any condition. Addressing issues of quality sleep and nutrition are also factors monitored in the office. When it comes to the use of medications for mental health, Dr. DeSarbo's approach is both cautionary and realistic. The risks and benefits of the use of medications as well as other non-medical approaches is openly discussed.
